Animal Crackers Cookbook Contest

Lynn Lehman's rat "Squirrel"

The authors of "Animal Crackers Cookbook" are conducting a photo contest to get pictures for the cookbook (and this web site) of certain animals (on the list below) eating their biscuits (or any non-commercial looking biscuits of their own).

Contest Rules

  1. The animal pictured must be one of the species in our cookbook. Exotics welcome! The animals that are listed in our book are:

    • Cat
    • Chinchilla
    • Dog
    • Ferret
    • Gerbil
    • Goat
    • Guinea Pig
    • Hamster
    • Horse
    • Llama
    • Monkey
    • Mouse
    • Opossum
    • Parrots:
      • Cockatiel
      • Eclectus
      • Macaw
      • Parakeet
    • Pig
    • Prairie Dog
    • Rabbit
    • Raccoon
    • Rat
    • Skunk
    • Squirrel
    • Sugar Glider
    • Wallaby/Kangaroo

  2. Please no obvious commercial biscuits. If you make your own hard biscuits great, or if the treat is not obviously a "Milkbone", it is perfect!

  3. Please no obvious commercial products - no Coke, Doritos, etc. as we do not endorse the companies that produce the products, and we certainly don't recommend feeding Coke to your animals!

  4. You must fill out our Entry Form

Submission Information

The deadline has been extended to some time early 2007 (to be announced soon). The prize will be an autographed cookbook and one of our enrichment toys from the cookbook. The winning picture will go in the cookbook (possibly even on the cover), and a lot of the best submissions will go on the web site and some in the cookbook.

Submit your pictures to skunks11@aol.com

On (date will be announced soon) we will vote on the pictures and make an announcement of the winner on (date will be announced soon) on this site.

TREAT TESTERS WANTED

We are also looking for treat testers:

We have received a lot of volunteer tester submissions from many lists, and will be choosing those with the following criteria:

  1. that have a large assortment of animals

  2. have a digital camera and are willing to submit pictures of each of the animals eating the treats

  3. that can do the testing after receiving them (no preservatives in these treats)

  4. submit records of which animals do and do not like the treats. For instance, you give sugar glider treats to 10 SG and 8 like them. You also give SG treats to goats, skunks, everything else you have (and yourself) and tell us which of these animals like the SG treats.....and so on with all the other species treats. So far we have found that most animals like all the treats, with cats being the most finicky. (EXCEPTION: If you have an animal that can't eat a certain ingredient in a recipe, you don't have to give it to them.)

We will let you know what ingredients are in the treats, but obviously not the recipe. (You'll have to buy the cookbook for that.) ;o)

The popular animals that will be listed in the cookbook are in the list above under "Contest Rules"

Picture Considerations

Please note: Due to time constraints, not all picture submissions are shown here. Thanks for your participation!
